Buying Plan

Picture
Once a business has calculated their cost of production and they have an inventory management system, they can make or improve buying their plan.

The objective with creating a green coffee buying plan is to lay out how much coffee the business needs, when the business will need it, and how much the business can pay for it.

When sustainability minded coffee buyers enter into purchasing conversations knowing what they need and how much they can pay for it, they are well equipped to buy coffee at fair prices for all parties involved and drive value down the supply chain to the producer.

There are many ways that one could go about creating a buying plan. One of the important decisions that a coffee roasting business will have to make as they work on a buying plan is how to set green coffee cost targets.

A strong buying plan provides a roadmap for the green coffee buyer to purchase coffees that match the needs of the organization. With a good buying plan in place, the buyer knows how much coffee the organization needs and what cost the organization can pay for the coffee.

An example green coffee buying plan is available here. This buying plan is meant to be a starting point for creating or improving upon the buying plan for a coffee roasting business.
